“This is kesar (saffron)”. Today, kesar mango orchards cover approximately 20,000 hectares across the districts of Junagadh and Amreli in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, with an annual production of two lakh tonnes.
However, only the mangoes grown around the Gir Sanctuary (Talala) is officially known as Gir kesar mango.Gir Kesar Mangoes are harvested in abundance along the foothills of Girnar mountains in Gujarat’s Junagadh district. According to history,
